Extend the Lifespan of Gates with Regular Maintenance and Swift Repairs

A well maintained gate will put off intruders, so it is very important to maintain and repair gates for security and convenience, whether your gate is used frequently, or rarely.  Maintenance will extend the lifespan of your gate, and make access/ingress to property easy for you, but difficult for intruders.

Maintenance for Gates: You can reduce maintenance issues for gates and help to prevent future problems, by regularly inspecting, cleaning and lubricating hinges and locks (follow manufacturer’s instructions) checking for signs of rust, and avoiding overuse of automatic openers.

The various problems that affect metal gates in particular are:

Rust: Metal gates are susceptible to rust over time, especially if they are external, and exposed to moisture. Rust can weaken the gate and make it more susceptible to damage.

Heavy gates can ’drop’ and require adjusting, or pressure is put on the gate posts at either end.  These issues can affect the gate’s functionality and appearance, and cause injury to people trying to gain access.
